RPS Training Courses 2019

Radiation Protection Supervisor (RPS) Courses

Statutory requirement for RPS training

Radiation Protection Supervisor TrainingRadiation employers have a specific duty to provide appropriate training for all employees working with ionising radiation under the
Ionising Radiations Regulations 2017 (reg 15).

Reg 18 requires radiation employers to appoint one or more suitable Radiation Protection Supervisors (RPS) to supervise the work according to the Local Rules. The purpose of the training is to ensure the RPS is made properly aware of the specific radiation hazard, has a good appreciation of the relative exposure risk, understands the relevant legislative controls, and is familiar with the basic principles of radiation protection in the workplace.

For guidance on the role of the RPS and training requirements please refer to HSE Information Sheet Number 6 (Radiation Protection Supervisors)

RPS Courses

Radman Associates host a range of two-day residential and one-day on-site courses designed for both your appointed RPS and others working with sealed and unsealed radioactive sources. Our RPA tutors explain the role of the RPS, including all required duties, current legislation and how to prepare for compliance inspections.

We aim to provide a practical understanding of radiation protection principles without labouring the physics of the subject.  Throughout the course attention is paid to the cornerstone of occupational radiation safety practice, namely that all exposures should be reduced to 'as low as reasonably practicable'.

Training courses include..

  • PowerPoint presentations
  • Syndicate studies
  • Monitoring demonstrations
  • Focussed discussion

Course delegates receive..

  • Detailed course notes
  • A copy of IRR17 regulations

"I really enjoyed the course; it was very informative and challenging.  It wasn't totally relevant to my field of work (medical) and I think that maybe this could have been more clearly highlighted.  In saying this I found the course well worth the attendance and would recommend it to others"
N.C. Spire Health

"Openness and group working proved a good point for all involved.  Instructors were first class, very helpful and professional.  Hotel and food were very good. Would thoroughly recommend to colleagues"
