RPA Service Contracts

As your appointed RPA we will help with all the technical and compliance arrangements for radiological protection, including Risk Assessments, Local Rules, monitoring protocols, RPS appointments, designation of work areas, personal dosimetry, and any of the other relevant regulations. In addition, where relevant, we advise on your obligations under the provisions of the Environmental Permitting Regulations 2016 and transport legislation.

Key legislation requiring RPA support

The Ionising Radiations Regulations 2017 (IRR17) – All users of radioactive sources, X-ray sets or radiation generators are required to work within the strict conditions of these Regulations (made under the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974) and the accompanying Approved Code of Practice.

The Environmental Permitting Regulations 2016 (EPR16) – Most users of radioactive sources in England and Wales require a Permit issued by the Environment Agency in respect of the keeping and use of sources and for the accumulation and disposal of radioactive waste.

Environmental Authorisations (Scotland) Regulations 2018 (EA(S)R) – Users of radioactive sources in Scotland are required to be licenced by the Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) in respect of the keeping and use of sources and for the accumulation and disposal of radioactive waste.

Carriage of Dangerous Goods Regs 2009 (CDG09) – The regulations place responsibilities on both the consignor and the carrier of radioactive packages on public roads. Largely, the regulations are concerned with packaging and labeling requirements, placarding of vehicles, consignment certificates, and contingencies for accident or loss.
