Radiological Surveys of Contaminated Ground & Buildings

Radman Associates conduct surveys of land and buildings to check for the presence of radiological contamination. Contaminated land surveys include:

  • Grid surveys of gamma radiation at ground level for detecting surface contamination.
  • Spot measurements of enhanced background gamma radiation at strategic points.
  • Monitoring of subsurface soils taken from trial pits for radioactive contaminants.
  • Sampling of soils for subsequent radiological analysis.

Specific radionuclides can be quickly identified by portable gamma spectrometer, together with hotspots of activity and associated exposure rates. Samples are normally then taken for laboratory analysis.

Analytical results are compared to nationally recognised standards for the acceptable clearance of contaminated land, paying particular attention to the proposed future use of the land or building.
